The Building Trades program provides students with a solid foundation in residential building. Construction skills and techniques taught include: framing, insulation, roofing, drywall
hanging and finishing, deck building, window and door installation, and finish
trim work. Students learn and apply these skills in the classroom and in lab situations which include building the annual school house project. Hand and power tool use, safety, teamwork, and employability
skills are emphasized. The Building Trades program is valuable
for students thinking of going into a construction field and
for others wanting to learn valuable life skills.
The Building Trades program is designed to prepare students for employment in the construction field and to teach valuable employability and life skills. When students have completed this class, they should be prepared to join the workforce as laborers, apprentices, and possibly tradespeople: and/or be prepared to further their education at the university, college or trade school level.
Students begin the program in the Building Trades I class.
This is a hands-on introduction course, which touches on all
aspects of residential building. Shed building is one lab
exercise used. The class is great preparation for the Building
Trades II class. (For experienced students, a test is offered
to bypass the Building Trades I course). Students in Building
Trades II concentrate on building the annual School House
Project. |
