| Students in the first year Early Childhood
Education program will be prepared for careers involving children
and families. Students may become teacher assistants in elementary
schools, pre-schools, day care centers, family day care settings,
Head Starts, or in special needs programs. Hands-on work experience
is gained by working for 20 weeks in the Children's Learning
Center, which houses approximately 115 children. Students
plan and prepare lesson plan materials, and then carry them
out twice a week to infants through pre-school aged children.
Opportunities are available for students to work in their
home town elementary classrooms, day cares, special education
programs, and other early childhood programs.
Second year Early Childhood Education students will work toward
their Child Development Associate Credential (CDA).
Students in the Early Childhood Education program will gain
knowledge in child growth and development, appropriate guidance
techniques, observational skills and professionalism. All
students will become CPR and First Aid certified and meet
all the standards for health, age, and character as required
by state licensing. Students are required to have proof of
a negative TB test, a physical exam, and a central registry
clearance. |
